Ontarians who drive a Honda CR-V or Lexus RX Series may need to double-check that their doors are locked.
These vehicle models topped the new list of Ontario’s most stolen vehicles in 2022.Non-profit organization Equite Association Announcing annual list It was named one of the top 10 most stolen vehicles in Canada and its provinces.
The Honda CR-V was named the most stolen model across Canada and topped the national list for the second year in a row.
The top 10 stolen vehicles in Ontario were all 2019 models or newer. Equite points out that criminals often target new manufacturers to maximize profits.

Equite newspaper announced that car thefts in Ontario will increase by nearly 50 per cent in 2022, reaching a historic high. The association says the increase “has put Canada in the spotlight internationally as a source of illegal trade.”
“Canadians are looking forward to a collaborative approach to combating this urgent and continuing national auto theft crisis,” said Terry O’Brien, President and CEO of the Equite Association. Stated. “This problem will not be solved in isolation. It will require meaningful change and collaborative solutions adopted by automakers, all levels of government, and law enforcement.”
Officials say drivers should take the following common sense steps to reduce the likelihood of their vehicle being stolen.
- Always keep your car doors locked
- Do not leave the key in the ignition or start the vehicle remotely
- Please make sure the windows are closed
- Please park your car in a well-lit area
- Park your car in a secure garage if possible
Common sense tips provide the first layer of protection, Equite said, and further steps can be taken, such as installing an anti-theft device, installing a vehicle immobilizer and investing in a tracking system.
