Longtime broadcast journalist Don Alhart was recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records this week for his record-breaking career.
According to Guinness World Records, Alhart, 79, officially has the longest career as a male TV news anchor, spanning more than 57 years. The longtime WHAM-TV (Channel 13) anchor had his breakthrough moment in mid-July.

“My favorite thing is others on the news,” Alhart told Guinness World Records.
“I end every broadcast with what’s called a ‘bright spot,’ highlighting individuals and organizations that are doing something to make the lives of others better.”
He recalled two major events that influenced his career. The 1971 Attica prison riot and the 1991 Rochester ice storm that paralyzed the area for several days.
