(WKBN) – Cold weather means some cars are struggling.
According to AAA, your car battery may need a quick jump start.
When you’re getting ready to go outside to warm up your car before you leave, you might panic if your car won’t turn on. According to AAA, during this frigid period, cars require a lot of electricity to start, and in some cases, the battery can completely die.
But why is this happening?
Experts say cold weather slows the reaction to the chemicals in your battery, reducing your car’s battery output. Many technicians look at cars and realize that the battery has not been taken care of.
To avoid jump-starting, experts recommend driving your car for at least 30 minutes at a time two to three times a week.
When you’re on the road, AAA says to keep essentials in your car in case you get stranded. Blankets, extra coats, water, and snacks are all good examples.
Wednesday morning is very cold. So if you need to go out, remember to shackle up.
If you go outside for a while, you will feel the bitter cold as predicted. However, keep in mind that the air temperature is low and the wind chill is even lower.
Wednesday morning’s “feels like” temperature will be between 5 degrees and 15 degrees below zero. With that in mind, experts say frostbite can occur within 30 minutes. Therefore, children who want to play outside on snowy days should be sure to dress appropriately.
Wear layers and dry clothing. Take regular breaks and make sure your kids come in often to warm up. Stay hydrated and enjoy hot drinks. If you don’t need to go outside this morning, please stay inside.
