Wichita, Kansas – Ascension Via Christi will add an athletic trainer to the team assigned to the track and field and cross country teams, bringing the number of full-time athletic trainers dedicated to the care of Wichita State University student-athletes to seven.
This is based on a recently renewed agreement with Ascension Via Christi, which will see the company serve as the exclusive sports medicine provider for WSU Athletics for an additional three years, beginning July 1, 2023. The agreement also provides for a full-time patient care coordinator to support patients. The student-athlete patient experience includes navigating the health care system, scheduling appointments, and assisting with billing and processing.

Ascension Via Christi Sports Medicine currently has one assigned to WSU men’s basketball/women’s golf, one to women’s basketball/men’s golf, one to volleyball/men’s and women’s tennis, and two to the track and field and cross country teams. We have a full-time athletic trainer. . Wichita State University employs two full-time athletic trainers and three graduate assistants who work directly with baseball, cross country, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Ascension Via Christi currently employs 16 full-time and three part-time athletic trainers who provide coverage and support for other sporting events in the Wichita area. Five are assigned to WSU, two to Newman University and nine to area high schools.
Shocker Sports Medicine operates under the medical direction of sports medicine experts Dr. Andrew Porter, Dr. Paul Cleland, and three sports medicine fellows who are fellowship-trained in primary care sports medicine. Masu.
