Spencer Rascoff, the famous co-founder and former CEO of Zillow and the entrepreneurial force behind Pacaso, has surprisingly limited involvement in real estate investing. Despite playing a pivotal role in revolutionizing the online real estate sector, Rascoff’s personal investments in the sector are significantly smaller.
During a recent fireside chat, Arrived co-founder and CEO Ryan Frazier asked about Rascoff’s foray into real estate investing. Rascoff’s response was frank. Other than owning some personal properties and Pacaso, he has stayed away from traditional real estate investing. The revelation may come as a surprise given his deep ties to the industry.
Challenges of traditional real estate investment
Rascoff’s hesitation reflects the concerns of many potential investors. The complexity of the real estate market and the difficulty of access are major barriers. “The reason why Arrived could exist is because I always felt like Arrived was inaccessible and complicated. I didn’t know where to start. It was really expensive. I had no idea how to do it. I didn’t want to be involved in the operational elements of it,” Raskoff said.
