Tickets for the Friends of the Alcona County Library Quilt Raffle go on sale today. Ticket sales will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for children in Alcona and Iosco counties. The quilt is on display at the Harrisville store. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased until December 2nd, the day of the drawing.
Every Tuesday in November at 10 a.m., we’ll be practicing the ukulele at our Harrisville store. The ukulele is available for checkout and is open to players of all skill levels. No ability to read music is required. You can learn how to tune and strum in no time.
Knitting Klub and Crochet will meet in the conference room on Tuesdays, November 7th and 21st from 1:15pm to 3:15pm to share stories, tips, and techniques while working on knitting and crocheting projects. Harrisville Branch clubs are open to all ages and skill levels. Bring in a project you’re currently working on or start a new one while chatting with the group.
On Wednesdays, November 15th and 29th at 1pm, all homeschoolers are welcome to attend homeschool hours at the Harrisville branch. Each lesson includes material and hands-on experiments in a rich environment. Children of elementary school age and older can participate.
On Thursdays in November (except Thanksgiving) at 9 a.m., the walking club meets in the parking lot of the Harrisville branch for a brisk morning walk. This group meets rain, snow and shine, but not on Thanksgiving.
The Curtis Township Library in Glenney will host an information session about the upcoming 2024 Curtis Township Library Mirage on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 4 p.m.
Children of all ages are welcome to participate in story time and crafts at the Harrisville branch on Fridays, Nov. 10 and 17 at 10:30 a.m. Children’s Coordinator Miss Shay selects seasonal books to read to children and creates engaging and fun crafts for them to complete each week. On Saturday, Nov. 11, all branches of the Alcona County Library will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. We celebrate their accomplishments and remember their accomplishments.
On Monday, November 13th at 5pm, the Cookbook Club will meet to sample and discuss recipes from this month’s book, Skinny Soups. Borrow a book from the Harrisville branch of the library and bring your favorite recipe from the book to share with your group.
The Alcona County Library Board will meet at the Harrisville Branch on Wednesday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, at noon, the Arcona Book Club will meet to discuss this month’s book club book, “Elephant Whispers: My Life with the Wild Herds of Africa.” This memoir details Lawrence Anthony’s experiences rehabilitating a herd of traumatized elephants on a game reserve in South Africa. This book explores themes such as bonds and communication with animals, the interconnectedness of nature, and the challenges of conservation. Join a book club and discuss book themes over coffee or snacks.
From Thursday, Nov. 23 through Saturday, Nov. 25, all Alcona County Library branches will be closed for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving!
The Friends of Alcona County Library’s Silent Auction begins Monday, November 27th. The auction continues until 1:30pm on Saturday, December 2nd. Donated prizes available for bid will be displayed at the library’s Harrisville branch. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for children in Alcona and Iosco counties.
