Andy Waite | bahrain turf club
Andy Waite has been appointed as the new Course Manager at Bahrain Turf Club. He replaces Neil Mackenzie Ross.
Yusuf Buhej, CEO of Bahrain Turf Club, said: The Club believes that providing a first-class racetrack is fundamental to the growth of Bahrain horse racing, not only from the perspective of attracting international horses, but also from the perspective of raising the standard of the domestic horse population.
“We have invested significantly in our facilities and developed two separate turf courses and extensive training resources to provide the highest quality riding grounds for all horses and riders.
“Andy has a wealth of experience from his time in England and shares our ambitions for the future. Thank you for giving me that.”
Previously based at Chelmsford City Racecourse, Waite began his racing career at Sandown Park. He was then based at Lingfield Park as groundsman and estate manager, qualifying as a course clerk in 2005 and held the role at Great Leeds from 2008 to 2009. He returned to that track to oversee the facility’s reopening as Chelmsford City in 2015.
Mr Waite said: “I was attracted to this role by having the opportunity to work for a progressive horse racing jurisdiction with long-term plans. I’m looking forward to it. I’m also really enjoying getting to know the friendly and helpful Bahraini people.”
BTC hosts the $1 million G2 Bahrain International Trophy in November each year, as well as the Listed Crown Prince’s Cup and Listed The King’s Cup in February and March respectively.
