The Oswego City-County Youth Authority is currently accepting applications for funding to support programs focused on providing team sports and physical fitness activities to youth in the county.
The agency is preparing to distribute grants of up to $60,000 to programs that meet youth team sports funding guidelines. This includes providing structured sports activities to youth from ages 6 to 17 in Oswego County in areas with limited resources.
“This is a great opportunity for adults and older youth to take on leadership roles and provide life lessons to young people,” said Oswego County Youth Authority Executive Director Brian Chetney. “Team sports foster a positive environment for youth to learn about teamwork, build a sense of community, and build skills that will last a lifetime.”
Active development of youth integrated with physical and healthy activities, especially sports, can have a positive impact on personal growth in areas such as self-esteem, goal-setting, and leadership skills. In addition, activity and sports improve important motor skills, prevent obesity, and reduce stress and mental challenges.
This funding is provided by the Oswego City-County Youth Authority and the New York State Department of Children and Family Services. The grants are intended to support a variety of local youth team sports programs that serve a broad range of youth in communities across the state where local youth team sports programs are lacking or underfunded. Masu.
For purposes of this grant, a “team sport” is defined as an organized physical activity in which a group of two or more individuals competes against two or more opposing individuals. Also included in this definition are sporting activities in which individuals compete on behalf of an organized group, such as singles tennis, team golf, and racing sports such as swimming and skiing.
All funded programs must aim to promote:
- Physical health and well-being: Increase physical activity and build or strengthen a positive relationship with your body.
- Mental health and well-being: Improving outcomes related to youth’s mental health, including the development of social and emotional skills and interpersonal connections.
- Employment: Develop qualifying skills such as collective problem-solving, teamwork and conflict resolution, all of which help prepare young people for suitable employment.
- Community cohesion: Breaking down barriers to reduce discrimination, crime and violence in our communities and empowering tomorrow’s young leaders.
The deadline to apply for the grant is Friday, October 27th.
The Oswego City-County Youth Authority Board will review and evaluate each proposal for cost-effectiveness, impact, and measurable outcomes. It will also allow each project to serve a wide range of youth from different age groups and geographic regions in Oswego County. Funding decisions and awards will be made based on New York State guidelines.
