Players use past experience to educate teammates
The Bills haven’t played a game in London since 2015, but some players have been there recently with other teams.
Running back Latavius Murray played overseas twice last year, scoring touchdowns with two different teams. Offensive guard David Edwards played in a game with the Rams in 2019. Practice team linebacker AJ Klein came to London with the Saints.
Sean Payton, New Orleans’ head coach at the time, brought in a sleep scientist that week, and he taught some fascinating lessons that Klein is passing on to the Bills this week.
“It’s important for men to go to bed early this week. Go to bed at 8:30 or 9 p.m.,” Klein said. “Try to ‘bank’ your sleep by getting about an hour to two extra hours of sleep each night. If the cumulative effects of the last few days go well, even with the time adjustments, he should be fully rested and ready by the time Sunday’s game day rolls around. ”
“Lying down or being in the air for long periods of time can affect your body differently,” Edwards says. “Move your body, keep it active, stay hydrated, eat well, and once you get there, focus on turnover.”
Sean McDermott is relying on the Bills’ sports science team, led by London native Joe Collins, this week. That’s what the team has been working on since the schedule was announced in May.
“There are a lot of people working behind the scenes,” McDermott said. “It’s a great opportunity.
“Just making sure we stay on top of things and trust what the sports science people are telling us,” Josh Allen said. “I believe what my trainer tells me. I try to stay as hydrated as possible and get as much sleep as possible.”
“It may seem like a simple thing, but you have to be very careful at this time of year, especially on a long trip like this, which is more important than people give it credit for,” Klein said. Told.
“It’s going to be a little bit of a setback. It’s going to be a little bit of a twist,” AJ Epenesa said of the trip. “If you keep at it, be smart and don’t try to have too much fun, you’ll be fine.
Bill and his wife will leave Buffalo Thursday night around 7:30 p.m. ET and plan to sleep during the approximately seven-hour flight. They will arrive in London around 7 a.m. local time and practice from 1:30 p.m. that day.
