Hammond – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Computer Science continues its Fall Industry Connect Distinguished Lectures. It is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. in his Envoc Innovation Lab in Room 2026 of the Computer Science and Technology Building. The title of this free talk is “From Academic Research Observation to Microsoft.” ” Microsoft’s Brian McCoy will be the guest speaker.
McCoy is a computer science graduate from Southeastern University and a senior software engineer at Microsoft with experience in the .NET Framework and React. He is not only a technical expert, but also an avid community contributor, having held multiple software architect positions. He has volunteered with his TEAL, led his .NET users group, and spoken at various conferences.
McCoy talks about achieving his career goals through strategic planning and community involvement, how he leveraged the tools around him, and how he never stopped working towards his goals.
“A bad start or a late start is never fatal. Set meaningful goals, make a plan, use the tools around you, and ‘figure it out.’ That will get you where you want to go,” he said. “When you combine constantly challenging yourself and using your time intentionally, you’ll find that success may be easier than you think. In this talk, I’ll share my journey to achieving my goals. and the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. Join me as I discover how I went from academic probation to Microsoft.”
