DORAL, Fla. — Anirban Lahiri shot a 7-under 65 and Bryson DeChambeau had a dramatic performance on the Blue Monster’s back nine to lead the Crushers in the LIV Golf Team Championship at Trump Doral on Sunday. He led them to a two-stroke victory over the Range Goats. .
In the final event of LIV Golf’s second season, the scores of all four players on each team counted, and the Crushers controlled nearly all of the back nine, leading by four strokes as the final group reached the 18th hole .
DeChambeau made just one par on the back nine and shot a 67. Charles Howell III shot a 72 and Paul Casey shot a 73.
Bubba Watson birdied the 18th and shot a 67 to lead the Range Goats. Taylor Gooch and Thomas Peters, who won the individual points title this season, each had 70 points, and Harold Varner III had 72 points.
The Range Goats were still within two until Gooch hit his tee shot into the water on the 18th for bogey, but the Crushers held firm. DeChambeau made his most notable birdie on the reachable 16th, hitting it long and leaving it near the second green. He hit a high wedge about 18 feet over the concession area and made the putt.
Lahiri played the lower rounds of the four teams vying for the title without a bogey.
“I was really excited,” Lahiri said. “There were a few Sundays where I let myself down. I wasn’t going to let the team down today.”
The defending champion 4Aces had no chance at all, with Dustin Johnson closing with a 75 and Peter Uihlein the only player to break 70 with a 69. They finished last of his four teams. Torque finished in 3rd place.
The Crushers won $14 million from a $50 million purse. Of that compensation, 60% of his salary will go to the team, and the rest will be split by the players ($1.4 million per player).
The remaining eight teams all lost in the match play quarterfinals and semifinals, competing in two separate tiers to determine the final standings.
