St. Edmond will look to challenge for a postseason berth here Friday night with seniors JT Laufersweiler and Leo Eng on a roll.
The Gaels will host Glidden-Ralston inside Dodger Stadium.Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Laufersweiler and Eng are the only seniors on the roster for St. Edmond (4-3 overall, 2-3 district).
“We know we are still alive and the only thing we can control is what we do.” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “Things have to happen in our favor, but first and foremost we have to go out and do our job.”
Last Friday night, the Gaels went on the road for a 48-42 victory over Coronesco, with Laufersweiler leading the way with 447 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. He finished with 113 on 20 rushes and 334 on 21-of-31 with no interceptions.
Sam Meyer had a career-high 198 yards rushing on 24 carries, and Grant Gareth had 10 receptions for 170 yards and three scores. Kinnick Henning caught the deflected ball in the end zone for the winning TD.
“Last week I asked the kids to make a play, and they did it.” Dillon said. “This eight-player game is all about scoring and producing. It was a really great win and we need to get another win this week.”
Laufersweiler threw for 1,860 yards and rushed for 558 more, with 25 passing TDs and 10 more on the ground. Gareth, a sophomore, had 43 receptions for 849 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Laufersweiler is tied for fourth in the state in total TDs and sixth in passing points. His 20.2 yards per completion is the third-best and his total yards is the fifth-best. Gareth is tied for third in receiving TDs and tied for fourth in receiving yards.
Meyer also played well on defense with a team-leading 59 tackles, while Adam Walker had 20.5 tackles. Henning and Quintin Jaschke each had 10 tackles for loss, and Coleman Hanson had five sacks.
Walker ranks fifth in the state in TFL and Meyer is tied for 14th in total stops with eight players.
Glidden Ralston (5-2, 4-1) is second in the district behind Audubon, and Baxter is third. Coronesco, Coon Rapids Bayard and St. Edmond tied for third with two wins and three losses.
“This is a team that can move the ball.” Dillon said. “We have to slow them down and pick up points in the process. We know we have to outscore them to win.”
The Wildcats trailed Audubon by 14 points, but came away with a 24-6 victory over Coon Rapids Bayard. He also dominated Collins Maxwell, outscoring Baxter by 10 points and Coro Nesco by four points.
Junior Colby Wallace threw for 350 yards and four TDs while recording a team-high 862 yards rushing and 18 points. Emmett Snyder rushed for 544 yards and Alex Daniel was the top receiver with seven catches for 105 yards and two scores.
Wallace anchors the defense with 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, Daniel has 55 tackles and Brayton Meyer has three interceptions. Glidden-Ralston forced 14 turnovers on the year.
