BURNSVILLE — The Kiwanis Club of Burnsville recently raised enough funds to cover Key Club International dues for all Key Club members at Burnsville High School.
“Late last year, I came up with the idea of supporting the Key Club of Burnsville by reaching out to local people, organizations and businesses and sponsoring international dues for Key Club members.” said Burnsville Kiwanis Club President Brock Rogers.
According to a Burnsville Kiwanis Club press release: “The Key Club at Burnsville High School has grown slowly and steadily over the years under the leadership of advisor Corey Powell.”
Key Club has grown to about 180 student members, Rogers said.
Key Club international dues are approximately $10 per student each year, he said.
“The total cost adds up quickly.” He said.
The Kiwanis Club launched an online donation portal and asked community members to donate.
“I didn’t know what kind of response I would get, but I knew that any amount of money would help.” Rogers said.
“The people of Burnsville knocked it out of the park. With the help of this great town and the people who live here, we will cover every penny of Key Club International dues for every Key Club member this year. We were able to raise enough funds.” Rogers said.
Your donation will help more students give back to their communities.
“Anyone who lives here knows how great Burnsville is and how willing we are to help each other. But honestly, I never imagined the community would grow this far.” Thank you to everyone who donated. We appreciate your donation. Thank you for being a part of this community. Thank you for helping us build this community.” Rogers said.
The Kiwanis Club recently worked with the Key Club to add an accessible ramp to the Kiwanis Shelter at Burnsville Memorial Park.
Rogers said the Kiwanis Club of Burnsville has served the community for the past 75 years. He said the club is always looking for new members and anyone interested can attend the club’s weekly lunch meetings. The Burnsville Kiwanis Club meets every Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Main Street Barrel House, 137 E. Main Street.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a Key Club member can make an online donation at barnesvillekiwanis.org. Donors may also mail checks or cash to the Kiwanis Club of Burnsville, 60601 Rose Hill Road, Salesville, OH 43778. Checks should be made payable to the Burnsville Kiwanis Club and include: “Major Club Sponsor” In the memo section of the check.
