NEWBURGH, Ind. (AP) — Paul Bulgeon had a great weekend at the right time, finishing with a 4-under 68 on Sunday for a three-stroke victory and a spot in the top 30 at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. He made it in. Earned a 2024 PGA Tour card.
Baljon went into the final event ranked 45th on the points list, winning the card with 64 wins and 68 losses.
On a typically emotional day at Victoria National, Shad Tuten and Rafael Campos were at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Tuten thought his 74 was good enough to finish within the top 30. However, post-round video showed he made an improper drop on the 15th fairway, resulting in a two-stroke penalty. As a result, his score dropped to 76, dropping him outside the top 30.
Campos missed his birdie putt on the final hole and broke down in tears. He was 31st, but dropped to 30th when Tuten received a penalty.
Tuten’s penalty became a shortcut. He picked up the ball on the par-5 15th, cleaned it, and went to put it in the fairway. The ball moved forward a little. Rules official Jim Duncan said the ball was supposed to be in the same spot and if it rolled again, it was supposed to find a place to stay.
According to the video, Tuten didn’t try to set it up in the same spot, instead moving it slightly to the right to find a place where it wouldn’t move.
Baljon was one of five players to finish in the top 30 to earn a PGA Tour card next year. Others included Canada’s Mac Meisner, Josh Teeter, Wilson Farr and Roger Sloan.
Teeter couldn’t afford to let the incoming shot drop and sank a 15-foot par putt on the 17th hole. Teeter hit the fairway and green on the final hole for a simple two-putt par, marking his return to the PGA Tour.
Ben Coles secured first place on the points list and qualified for The Players Championship and the US Open.
