British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said Britain “unequivocally” condemns the surprise attack on Israel by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.
“The UK unequivocally condemns this horrific attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians. The UK will always support Israel’s right to defend itself,” James Cleverley said in a social media post.
The French Foreign Ministry also condemned “in the strongest possible terms the ongoing terrorist attacks against Israel and its people” after hundreds of rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip.
France “expresses its full solidarity with Israel and the victims of these attacks. It reaffirms its absolute rejection of terrorism and its commitment to Israel’s security,” the ministry added.
The attack occurred as Israeli forces were fighting Palestinian militants on the ground in several locations around the Gaza Strip after rockets were fired into Israeli territory from the enclave, the military said.
Military spokesman Richard Hecht said: “This was a combined ground assault carried out by paragliding, by sea and underground,” adding: “Right now we are fighting… We are fighting,” he added. Our troops are currently fighting on the ground. ”
German Foreign Minister Annalena Verbock condemned the attack, saying violence against innocent people must stop immediately.
“I strongly condemn the terrorist attacks against Israel from Gaza. The violence and rocket attacks against innocent civilians must stop now. We stand behind Israel and its right under international law to protect itself from terrorism. We stand in complete solidarity,” said Annalena Verbock.
Ukraine also expressed solidarity with Israel and said it “strongly condemns the ongoing terrorist attacks against Israel, including rocket attacks against civilians in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.” We stand with Israel in its right to defend itself and its people. ”
Russia, on the other hand, called for restraint from all sides, saying, “We are currently in contact with all people: Israelis, Palestinians, Arabs. Of course, we always ask for restraint.”
Spain “strongly condemns the extremely serious terrorist attack against Israel from Gaza” and expressed shock at the “indiscriminate violence”. We are shocked by this indiscriminate violence. ”
