Oct 9 (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia said on Monday it had taken the second step towards bidding for the 2034 World Cup, submitting a letter of intent to host FIFA, world soccer’s governing body.
“Last week, we announced our ambition to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and this official application marks the beginning of our journey to make our people’s dreams a reality,” Yasser Al Misehar, president of the Saudi Football Federation SAFF, said in a statement. I will continue.”
“We are very keen to present the most competitive bid possible, which will also help unite the world through football,” he added.
Announcing its intention to bid for the tournament on Wednesday, SAFF said: “More than 70 FIFA member associations from different continents have publicly pledged their support to Saudi Arabia.”
Last week, FIFA named Morocco, Spain and Portugal as hosts for the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to host the opening match to mark the tournament’s 100th anniversary.
