BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Many people are interested in how the U.S. government responds to attacks on Israel.
Virginia Tech experts shared their insights on next steps.
“This is a very dangerous situation and a difficult situation,” said Karen Hult, a political science professor at Vermont State University.
She believes the U.S. government’s first step is to show support for and condemn the attack.
“The next question becomes how possible it is to mobilize some level of international support to try to do something to calm the situation in the short term,” Hult said. Ta.
She said Israel needs support beyond words, but without the House speaker, the task will be more difficult for the U.S. government.
“So while it’s very difficult to imagine asking Congress for new spending at this point, it does mean there will be a continued effort on the U.S. side to rally support from both countries on Capitol Hill.” Mr. Hart said.
She said this war has similarities and differences with the Ukraine war.
“Of course, on the one hand, the United States has supported Ukraine from the beginning, as has Israel,” Hult said. “The difference is that Israelis were clearly stunned by the Hamas attack, which was widespread and very systematic.”
Hult said he doesn’t expect the U.S. military to enter the war in the near future.
“I certainly think that the repositioning of the U.S. Navy in the region is the beginning of continued discussions within and around the United Nations Security Council and with other countries in the region,” she said. .
