Travis Ginger, a horticulture and landscape design instructor at Anoka Technical College, broke the previous record for the world’s heaviest pumpkin on October 9th. He broke the world record at the 50th World Championship Pumpkin Weighing in Half Moon Bay, California. I grew a huge pumpkin weighing 1,246.9 kg.
According to Guinness World Records (GWR), Giinger named the giant gourd “Michael Jordan.”
GWR shared the news on Instagram. “The heaviest pumpkin grown by Travis Ginger, 2,749 pounds (1,246.9 kilograms), was unveiled at the 50th Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-in,” the records organization wrote. (Also read: Man grows 8.97kg onions, heavier than a bowling ball)
At the same time, GWR shared a video in which a giant pumpkin can be seen being lifted with the help of a crane. When placed to be weighed, Ginger jumped up, excited to have won the competition. You can also see people staring at the pumpkins in amazement.

This video was shared on Instagram just a few hours ago. Since it was posted, it has already been viewed more than 100,000 times. The share also has nearly 7,000 likes. Many people expressed their excitement at seeing the giant pumpkin in the comments section of the video.

This record was previously held by Stefano Cutlupi of Radda in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy. Cutulpi broke the record at the 10th Campeonato della Zuccone Pumpkin Festival in 2021. His pumpkin weighed 1,226 kg (2,702 lbs 13.9 oz) and this was the first giant pumpkin he ever surpassed the 2,700 lb mark in competition.
